J-30 “Black Knight”
Description:
The sailing vessel “Black Knight” is a J/30 cruiser/racer
of proven performance that is fast and versatile, ideally suited to sailing instruction and cruising the Perlas Islands of
Panama. It is easily handled by both novice and experienced sailors alike. The “Black Knight” can take up to four
guests and captain on day-sail instruction and charters and two guests and captain on extended charters and lessons to the
Perlas Islands for as long as eight days.
The J/30 has great speed in light air and wonderful pointing ability. The fractional
rig allows effective sail adjustment and instant reduction when weather threatens. The “Black Knight” is a breeze
to sail with a crew of two or even single-handed.
If you are looking to develop basic and advanced sailing and/or cruising
skills you will find that the J/30 “Black Knight” is a perfect choice. The “Black Knight will give you an
opportunity to learn the diverse systems of a modern auxiliary cruiser. The boat boasts a comfortable cockpit and deck space
for four adults and an instructor/captain.
The main cabin offers a small galley with icebox and stove. Directly
adjacent is the navigation area with full chart table and instruments. Between the main cabin and the forward cabin is an
enclosed head with basin. The “Black Knight” has six full-length bunks: the two quarter berths
are used to store the guests’ gear and extra sails, the two pilot berths in the main cabin are for the captain and one
guest, and the forward cabin offers a private double berth for one or two guests with an overhead hatch for ventilation.
The “Black Knight” is equipped with full race gear, including spinnaker and is equipped with current United
States Coast Guard safety equipment including lifejackets, first aid and flares. The boat comes with a VHF radio, anchoring
tackle and a fire extinguisher. The decks are enclosed in lifelines and pulpits.
J-30 “Black Knight” Excursions:
Day Sails: We offer one day sailing lessons and day-trips from the Balboa Yacht Club, Panama
to and around Taboga Island and nearby islands and return. We will coordinate lesson objectives with those
students who wish a program of basic and/or advanced sailing skills on a J30 sailboat. Daily sails will begin at 0900 hours
and finish around 1700 hours. We will provide a light lunch, local beers, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Price: $300 per day total (cash, wire transfer, US bank transfer, or check drawn on a US bank) for
up to four guests.
Perlas Islands Sailing
Adventure: The Perlas Islands, Panama lay 35 to 60 miles southeast of Panama City and provide good anchorages,
remote beaches, and excellent sailing. Our program to these islands offers 4 to 8-day trips for two guests
and captain. These trips can be just leisurely sailing or can include a full range of sailing instruction.
Guests who undertake this excursion should be in good outdoor physical condition and be prepared to assist in all aspects
of sail handling, routine maintenance, fishing, snorkeling, and beach exploring. If you are looking
for more of a relaxed type of sailing trip where captain and crew take care of your every need, this trip is not for you.
Perlas Island trip guests will sleep on the boat the night prior to departure at dawn the following day from the Balboa
Yacht Club and return between 1500 and 1800 hours on the final day. Those arriving at Panama’s Tocumen
International Airport prior to the departure day can coordinate with us for pickup and delivery to the boat. Price:
$400 per day total (cash, wire transfer, US bank transfer, or check drawn on a US bank) for up to two guests, to include
all food, non-alcoholic beverages, local beer, and wine.
